New policy changes in the United States, featuring a sharp rise of H-1B visa fees, have prompted the Indian leaders to invite skilled expatriates to relocate and contribute to domestic development.
A high-ranking official associated with the government pointed out that the administration is prioritizing bringing back NRIs. Additionally, a different council member noted that American immigration policies have traditionally benefited the America, and the recent change could potentially help India in drawing international professionals.
The main point is that the moment is right for India to engineer a talent repatriation and bring back world-class experts in software, medicine, and various cutting-edge sectors who left the homeland over the previous 30 years.
Some reports indicate that a more restrictive immigration climate in the US is prompting several expatriates to think about returning. However, specialists note that convincing hundreds of thousands to depart US locations for home soil will be difficult.
Nithin Hassan is one of the small group of Indians who, after a long stint in the US, took a leap of faith and relocated to India's Silicon Valley last year.

"The number of learners from top-tier schools looking to relocate to India following their education has increased by 30% recently," an executive stated.
She continued that the instability is also making experienced professionals "evaluate their long-term careers in the America."
"Although a lot are still settled there, we see a noticeable rise in CXO and top professionals considering India as a credible choice," she added.
This shift in mindset could also be aided by a huge growth in offshore offices – which are international units of multinational companies in India – that have opened up viable work opportunities for expatriates.
Such GCCs could act as alternatives for those from the tech industry in case the United States closes its doors, making GCCs "increasingly attractive to skilled workers, particularly as overseas postings decrease," as per an asset manager.
However achieving reverse migration on a large level will require a concerted and dedicated campaign by the leadership, and such efforts are absent, says a previous media adviser to a former PM and author on professional emigration.
"Officials will have to go out and actually select individuals – such as leading researchers, workers, and innovators – it aims to attract. That demands resources, and it needs to receive high-level support," he stated.
He said that this approach was employed by India's first prime minister in the previous era to attract brilliant individuals in sectors like aerospace and nuclear technology and create institutions like the esteemed a top research institute.
"Those individuals were motivated by a strong nationalism. Where is the reason to relocate now?" he wondered.
Conversely, there are multiple attractive and repelling factors that have led to skilled workers consistently exiting the country, he noted, and India has applauded this pattern, rather than reversing it.
