The Film 'Together' Can Be Streamed, and It Has the Power to Test Your Relationship.

We present a dare for long-term couples who appreciate the horror genre: Get comfortable with your significant other and watch Together. The critically acclaimed 2025 movie recently had its online premiere via Hulu. Outwardly, it could look like conventional physical horror, but within Together resides a profound meditation about our choices in loving one another.

A Debut Feature Delving into Partnership Complexities

Together is the introductory feature for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It showcases the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Millie and Tim, an unmarried couple that have stayed together for a decade. Married in reality in 2017, Franco and Brie bring a unique chemistry to their portrayals, skillfully embodying both the strengths and weaknesses of a enduring union.

The plot begins when Tim and Millie relocate from the metropolis to the country for her career. A somewhat stereotypical story element, of course, but that’s largely where the cliches end. Together evolves into as much a psychological exploration of the pair’s relationship as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

A Paranormal Spark

While walking near their country house, a storm hits, and Millie and Tim tumble into an underground cave. After spending the night there and managing to escape, a strange force takes hold of the duo. This force compels a supernatural closeness between them that goes well past typical partnership.

The complete narrative is a gradually intensifying fright fest, weaving in bits of fever-dream horrors, unsettling (but tastefully done) body horror, and authentically humorous interactions (sometimes in the middle of something grotesque). Shanks skillfully blends these components neatly and delivers them in a gradually swelling aura of dread.

Layered Performances

A significant portion of Together is exclusively the two lead actors, and they masterfully render manifold depths to the partnership at the film's core. Her self-assurance and sense of connection is suffering due to a emotional and physical gap. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his unwillingness to chase only his failing musical ambitions slowly bubbles to the surface.

Tim, on the other hand experiences isolation and cut off by Millie, who’s the impetus they’ve moved to the country and far away from his social circle. He dreads the idea of completely losing his personal autonomy in his partner. This fear is amplified by the fact he can’t drive and needs Millie for getting around.

The film's most intelligent aspect in this movie refrains from painting Tim or Millie the obvious villain.

Tim and Millie grapple with the type of challenges that come with long-term unions after ten years. Deep down, they have affection for each other. They share moments of joy, provide solace, and share intimately at times. But below this facade, there’s an persistent undercurrent of doubt about their relationship.

Symbolism and Metaphor

While the otherworldly presence in Together act as a metaphor for these anxieties of codependency and totally devoting oneself to a partner, the symbolism never feels hamfisted or heavy-handed. Instead, these more disturbing, unsettling scenes present a perfect parallel to the character-driven drama. Both the horror and the drama enhance each other symbiotically.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s ending, which remains unspoiled, has left audiences divided on the story's concluding statement about enmeshed dynamics. It has been said that single viewers have understood the narrative as a strong argument for remaining unattached. Conversely, certain partners having disagreements found that the film actually helped them reconcile.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own reaction could function as a revealing measure of how you perceive partnership. Will the ending sow feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a positive outlook on love? Will you see yourself in either protagonist and feel frustration, or simply glance toward your significant other and utter, “I’d do that for you”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an exploration you can undertake at this very moment.

Together is streaming on Hulu now.
