Fianna Fáil candidate Jim Gavin has announced he is pulling out from the Irish presidential election immediately.
He was set to be one of three candidates vying for Ireland's head of state, alongside Independent TD Catherine Connolly and Fine Gael's Heather Humphreys.
Nonetheless, late Sunday he said through a declaration he had "made a mistake that was not in keeping with my character and the standards he upholds."
"Considering all these factors, I've chosen to leave the election for president immediately and go back to my family," he said via a statement.
