India Overcome Bug Invasion to Sail to Chilly Victory Over Pakistan in Women’s Cricket World Cup

Pace bowler Goud and spin specialist Sharma claimed three wickets each as the Indian side routed their opponents by 88 runs in their World Cup match, starting similar to recent fixtures between the countries men’s teams without a handshake from the skippers and then featured a disputed run-out of a Pakistani opening batter.

The Indian captain, Kaur, did not shake hands with Pakistan’s Fatima Sana during the coin toss and the squads departed without greeting each other after the contest amidst diplomatic strains between the two neighboring nations.

Skippers at the men’s Asia Cup in the UAE also did not shake hands at games between the two rivals. India has accused Pakistan of being involved in attacks on tourists that claimed many lives.

Game Overview

Losing the toss, India were all out for 247 runs in 50 overs. Their openers, Pratika Rawal and star player Mandhana, put on 48 runs for the first wicket before Sana had her lbw for a 32-ball 23. Rawal made 31 before she was bowled by spinner Iqbal. The captain scored 19 runs before edging behind off Baig.

Deol was the top scorer for the team with 46 and Ghosh made a quick-fire 35* to boost their side to a competitive total.

Rodrigues (32), Sharma (25) and Sneh Rana (20) all made valuable contributions, while Baig took 4/69 for Pakistan and Iqbal and Sana had two wickets apiece. Play was halted for 15 minutes because bugs were troubling the cricketers.

Pakistan’s Innings

The Pakistani team were dismissed for 159 in 43 overs. Sole fifty of the match in the venue came from Amin, who made 81.

Pakistan’s first wicket was lost in a confusing manner when the opener Muneeba Ali was adjudged run out. Ali had grounded her bat after getting back, having moved forward to attempt a stroke. Her bat was then lifted momentarily when an throw hit the stumps. Sana argued with the fourth umpire that the batter was not running but the ruling was upheld.

Amin’s innings of 106 balls included a six and nine fours. Goud took three wickets for 20 runs and the spinner finished with 3/45.
