One senior officer that leaped to the assistance of a fellow officer that got attacked by a knifeman received the Royal Recognition for Courage.
Sgt Tim Ansell fought with twenty-seven-year-old Jacob Brown following he pressed a weapon to the throat of his colleague Sgt Marc Foster.
Brown launched his attack as the officers and their partner, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a driver subsequent to a road collision in the area in summer 2023.
Brown attacked with blade both Sgt Ansell and Sgt Foster prior to PC Wolstencroft stopped him with a Taser.
"Officer knifed," PC Wolstencroft stated over his communication device.
Bodyworn and dashboard camera video shared by the force revealed Brown, wearing in dark clothing with a head covered, run up to Sergeant Foster from behind with a knife pointed forward.
He collided with the officer who tripped and fell to the ground, after which Sgt Ansell jumped in and struggled to restrain him to the pavement although being repeatedly struck with the blade.
PC Wolstencroft drew his Taser and sought a safe opportunity, bringing the confrontation to an conclusion.
Sergeant Ansell can be heard to say: "I need assistance on my neck now, I got knifed in the neck."
Sergeant Ansell sustained multiple lacerations to his throat and further injuries to his limbs and body, whereas Sergeant Foster suffered slash wounds.
The department reported Sergeant Foster employed his hands to stop his fellow officer's bleeding before paramedics reached the scene.
The new recognition follows after the law enforcement team were granted departmental Courage Honors in October 2023 and the police federation award from the area union branch in spring 2024.
They additionally received a Area Bravery Award in summer 2024.
"The responses of the entire team in the end protected themselves and meant no civilians experienced any harm."
Brown was sentenced to an indefinite hospital order in early 2024, according to officials.
