Cars in Germany's Town Discovered Smeared with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Law Enforcement Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Police reported they were contacted by a man who found a vehicle in Hanau smeared with reddish substance

Around fifty cars have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.

Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.

Police report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.

The liquid had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.

Law enforcement then found many other smeared automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations banning the public display of Nazi symbols.

Law enforcement report initial examinations suggest the substance was most likely human blood.

"At present there remains no indication as to its source; officials are currently not informed of any harm in relation with the event," they added.

Municipal representatives stated they were working "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the residents for tips.

An important official commented the attack rendered him stunned and had to be addressed quickly.

"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he wrote on online, mentioning the killing of nine people by a assailant targeting individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
